The pedestal is wrapped in vertical fluting, the mid century detail that gives a plain cylinder a rhythm and catches light differently through the day. At 22 inches high it sits level with the arm of most sofas, which is the height that makes a side table useful rather than decorative. The 20 inch top is wide enough to take a lamp and a book at once, or a large plant, rather than forcing a choice between them.
The finish is a dark walnut veneer over an MDF core with real poplar wood slats, a build that stays flat and true in a way solid wood of this diameter often does not. Dark walnut runs deep and genuinely brown rather than orange, and it reads darker in a room than it does on a screen.
